The breakdown
Tied as the top finisher for the Highlanders was the two-time freshman of the week Jett Leard after an outstanding performance at the Elon Phoenix Invitational. Leard found success from his first round with the freshman stroking one under par throughout the first round. This was highlighted by an eagle on the second-longest hole on the eight holes of the back nine. Leard went right into the next round replicating his success and improving, going three under on the second 18 of the day. Leard came into the second and final day four under par and looked to improve his score. The Highlander once again found success on hole 17 and improved his score further with a 69 in the final round, going two under. Leard finished the invitational an impressive six under par across both days and all three rounds. Leard finished in T-17th place overall and tied for the best finish on the team.
CJ Peterson was the fellow Highlander tied in first place with Leard as the sophomore also shot six under par and finished in T-17th place at the Elon Phoenix Invitational. Peterson came off the practice rounds in strong form as he started the front nine two under par in the first round. Peterson did the same on the back nine, going two under to finish four under on the opening round. During the second round, Peterson had a clean round, correcting any mistakes with a bogey and earning a score of even on the second round. On the final round of action, Peterson made quick work of the back nine, shooting four under par with help from an eagle on hole 17. After the final hole of the round, Peterson ended two under on the day and six under across the invitational.
In his second round of action for the Highlanders this fall season, Gregory White finished third best on the team, shooting even at the Elon Phoenix Invitational. The freshman had a strong showing in the first round of the day with four birdies and going just one over par on the round. For the second round, White fixed some mistakes and shot two over par on the last round of the day. On day two, White showed big improvements as the freshman improved, shooting three under on the day. Like many of his teammates, White found his greatest success on hole 17 as he finished two under par for an eagle. The Highlanders shot a remarkable 11 under par on the 17th hole across the invitational with none of them having anything less than a par. White shot even and finished tied for 44th place for third best on the team.
The last of the point-scoring Highlanders was David Goode as the Highlander moved up 23 spots on the last day to finish tied for 59th place with a final score of 215, two over par. After struggling to adapt to the course during the first round, Goode later found his groove in the second and final rounds of the invitational. Goode shot two under in both rounds to end two over par.
