Bluefield, W.Va. – The King University women's volleyball team capped its weekend at the Bluefield Invite with a dramatic five-set victory over Bluefield State on Saturday morning at Ned Shott Gymnasium in Bluefield, W.Va.
King (3-0) edged Bluefield State (1-2) by set scores of 27-25, 25-19, 26-28, 24-26, 17-15 in a match that saw momentum shifts, long rallies and standout individual performances.
The Tornado claimed the first two sets behind strong hitting and defense but saw Bluefield State rally to even the match after four sets. In the decisive fifth set, King held on in extra points, taking the set 17-15 to secure the win and remain unbeaten on the season.
Cameron Martin powered the attack with 16 kills, while Capri Johnson and Isabella Statzer each added 14 kills. Avery Schwieger contributed 14 kills and led the team with 16 digs. Setter Amaya Hall guided the offense with 28 assists and picked up 17 digs, while Ella Kiser chipped in 22 assists and 10 digs. King's defense was pivotal, collecting 96 digs and 14 blocks as a team.
