Meredith Pegram finishes top five at Bridgewater College Invitational
BRIDGEWATER, Va. — Averett University women's golf representative Meredith Pegram shot the second-lowest score of her collegiate career with a 77 (4 over par) to move up from tied for ninth to tied for fifth at the Bridgewater College Invitational.
Pegram put herself in solid position Monday in the first round, finishing 7 over par and tied for ninth. She carried that momentum into the second round Tuesday, recording a birdie on hole No. 2 and finishing with 13 pars.
The performance marked a career-best finish for the junior from Reidsville, N.C., as she earned her first top-five finish as a Cougar.
Southern Virginia University jumped Marymount University in the final round, shooting 14 over par as a team to move into first place. The Knights improved by 19 strokes from the first round to the second round to win the invitational.
Pegram will look to continue her momentum after earning a top-10 finish in each of Averett's first two tournaments of the fall, including Tuesday's top-five finish. Averett returns to action Sept. 27-28 at the Batten University Anita Hobson Invitational.
