RADFORD, Va. – The Radford softball program and head coach Joe Pound announced Monday afternoon that Ramses Cordova has joined the coaching staff as an assistant coach for the upcoming 2027 season.
"I'm beyond excited for the opportunity to join the Radford softball program," commented Cordova. "I'm also incredibly grateful to coach alongside Coach Pound. He is building something great here and I can't wait to be a part of the journey."
Cordova jumps from the baseball side of coaching to the softball side as he most recently spent the 2026 season as an assistant coach with the Lake-Sumter State College baseball program. With the Lakehawks, Cordova primarily assisted the team's hitting efforts. The junior college program placed consistently in the top 25 of the national rankings poll and finished second at the FCSAA Championship.
With Cordova's help, the Lakehawks offense posted impressive numbers across the 2026 campaign. The team finished the year with a .321 batting average, a .405 on-base percentage and 71 home runs as a part of 195 total extra-base hits. The team broke the single-season home run and wins records while ranking top 15 nationally in multiple major offensive categories.
Prior to making his coaching debut, Cordova made multiple stops along his student-athlete career as a baseball player. He began that career in 2021-22 at St. Johns River State College before transferring to Winthrop for the 2023 campaign and Bethune-Cookman in 2024. At the Division I level, Cordova appeared and started in more than 100 games while totaling 13 doubles and 10 homers. He capped his collegiate playing days as a graduate with UNC Pembroke, where he appeared and started in all 45 games.
In 2025, he graduated from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke with his bachelor's degree in criminal justice.
