Domestic Violence Awareness Month
WHEREAS, domestic violence is a serious and widespread crime that affects individuals, families, and communities across all racial, ethnic, age, gender, and socioeconomic lines, leaving devastating physical, emotional, and financial consequences; and
WHEREAS, since 1989, October has been recognized nationally as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, bringing communities together to raise awareness about domestic violence and uplift the needs, voices, and experiences of survivors; and
WHEREAS, the 2026 Domestic Violence Awareness Month theme, "With Survivors, Always," builds upon the importance of safety, support, and solidarity by calling on communities to move from awareness to action and stand with survivors in meaningful and lasting ways; and
WHEREAS, survivors deserve not only to be heard, but to have access to the resources, services, protections, and support they need to pursue safety and healing; and
WHEREAS, the City of Statesville reaffirms its commitment to standing with survivors of domestic violence, supporting prevention efforts, and promoting a community where all individuals can live free from violence and abuse; and
WHEREAS, we recognize the critical role of local organizations, advocates, law enforcement, service providers, and community members who work to prevent domestic violence, support survivors, provide pathways to safety, and hold offenders accountable; and
WHEREAS, by working together and turning awareness into action, we can strengthen support for survivors, help prevent domestic violence, and build a safer and more compassionate community for all residents of Statesville;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Douglas Hendrix, Mayor of the City of Statesville, do hereby proclaim October 2026 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in the City of Statesville. I urge all citizens, government agencies, public and private institutions, and businesses to stand with survivors, raise awareness, support prevention efforts, and take meaningful action to help end domestic violence.
