An 18-year-old from Statesville faces multiple charges after Iredell deputies found more than 50 grams of marijuana and other paraphernalia inside a playhouse behind his home.
Deputies arrested Layton Charles Jenkins, of Green Meadow Lane, on April 14 after they spotted a possible drug deal happen in front of his home, according to an Iredell County Sheriff’s Office press release.
The charges stemmed from several complaints made to the Iredell Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (A.C.E) Team about possible drugs being sold in the area of Green Meadow Lane and Jane Sowers Road, the release said.
Here’s what happened, according to the release: Around 10:45 p.m., deputies witnessed Jenkins involved in a possible drug deal. They then tried to speak to him while he was inside a nearby playhouse behind his home. When deputies got closer, they noticed a strong marijuana odor coming from inside the playhouse.

Jenkins gave deputies permission to search the playhouse, and they found over 50 grams of marijuana, nearly 10 grams of butane hash oil, known on the street as “shatter” and alcohol, the release said. They also found plastic baggies and digital scales.
Deputies charged Jenkins with possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, possession with intent to sell or deliver a schedule VI controlled substance, felony possession of marijuana, felony maintaining a place for a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and underage possession of alcohol.
Deputies also served Jenkins with outstanding warrants for simple possession of marijuana, possession of a schedule IV controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Jenkins is being held in Iredell County Detention Center under a $30,000 secured bond, the release said. He was previously convicted of assault with a deadly weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia.
