Michael Adam Wright, 33, died Sunday night when he crashed his car. He was a mechanic with Michael Annett’s Xfinity Series team, which is owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Wright, a Troutman resident, was traveling south on Flower House Loop at 10:50 p.m. on Aug. 20 when he ran off the road twice and his vehicle became airborne, Trooper J. S. Swagger of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said..

Wright wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected, Swagger said.

“He was the type of guy that if you needed something, it was yours to borrow,” said neighbor Kevin Walf. “I still have some of his tools in my shed.”

Officials pronounced Wright dead on the scene.

Highway Patrol is still investigating, Swagger said.

No one else was involved.
